What a terrible day for the baseball world. One of its most entertaining pitchers is gone. "The Bird" will be missed, no doubts about that! Had just watched one of his games on MLB Network a few weeks ago and was sharing with my wife all about the man and the player that was "The Bird"! :*(

I was not around when the Bird came to prominence in Detroit. However, when my mother and brother talked about him and then seeing old clips of his antics (as well as his pitching) it was as if he became one of my favorites.

I remember seeing something in 1999 in Tiger Stadium's final season that when he came out on the field, he had the largest ovation among any living Tiger. That included guys like Kell (another one who passed this year), Kaline, and Horton to name a few. He was a hero to Tigers fans. He will definitely be missed.
