Upper Midwest Trip--Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minnesota

We are going to Chicago (both teams), Milwaukee, and Minneapolis next month.  Any pointers on points of interest, restaurants, hotels, etc?

I've been to Wrigley, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis in the last year. In Chicago and Minnesota I'd advise going to the game via public transportation. There's no need to try to find parking and it can be tough in Chicago. I stayed at a Doubletree near O'Hare and got a great rate. In Minneapolis, I stayed at the Hilton in Bloomington and took the train.

On the other hand, a car is helpful in Milwaukee.

Traveling with kids or adults trip?

We are doing the same trip next month too, driving, so we'll have a car.  We are going to Chicago, Minn, Milwaukee, then back to Chicago in that order. So we never actually stay in Chicago, just drive in for the day because of hotel price/location.  In Minn we are staying at the holiday inn downtown (its .9 mile from the stadium), definitely walkable but hoping they offer a free ride too.  In Milwaukee we are staying at the best western woods view inn.  It's walkable too, 1.1 miles.  Both hotel have pools, walkable distance, and free breakfast.  Those are all musts for me.  Not paying for parking/breakfast buys me a few more beers at the games.  When are you going?

We went to Wrigley earlier this year and loved it.  First time in that park.  I highly recommend the stadium tour if time allows.  We did one the day after the game we went to.  Even though it was a game day and the dugouts and clubhouse were off limits it was still an excellent experience, especially during the 100 year celebration.  As for Target Field, haven't been there in a few years.  I know some seating has changed since the last time I was there, it's a really nice park as well, but be warned if it is a hot day, the concourses between 1st and 3rd wrapping around behind home, and the one in the outfield on the lower levels will be extremely hot if crowded with people.  If I remember there wasn't a lot of wind the day we went, and we sat in the outfield at the end of the 1st baseline.  All in all both stadiums are beautiful, and Wrigley is a step back in time.  Enjoy!

We did that trip last summer and loved it! We stayed at the Old Chicago Inn recommended on this site. It isn't fancy, but we felt safe and it is walking distance to Wrigley and a block from the El. Have fun!

Something I forgot about Minnesota......if you don't mind a longer train ride there is a ton of parking at the Mall of America garage.  The rail station is in the lowest floor of the garage.  I've parked here in the past when I saw games at the Metrodome and as well as Target Field with no problems.

We are doing the same trip, July 20-27th. Staying in Chicago at the Majestic, near Wrigley, recommended by co-workers.  Also, found a great hotel, or so I hope in MN, the Normandy Inn & Suites.  Sounds like a handful of chasers will be on the same path this Summer.  Enjoy!

Must be a popular route in July. My sons and I will also be in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis in July also... the 21st Sox, 22nd Cubs, 23rd Milwaukee and 24th Minneapolis. Hope to meet up with some Chasers. This is our first Chasing Trip :)

We will be at the same games in Chicago! Would love to meet up. I have sons 10 & 13. We have Sox tickets in Section Box 111 Row 2, Seats 7-10. For the Cubs, we are Aisle 133/134 Row 3, Seats 7,8,107,108. Safe travels!

That would be awesome to meet up. This is our first trip and I am excited like crazy. The Sox game on the 21st we are in section 164, row 13 seats 8 to 12. Cubs on the 22nd we are in section 403 row 5. We are planning to be at each stadium when the gates open :)
My son will be wearing Rangers gear ;)

Text me at (972) 978-5019 from the stadium and we will meet up somewhere.

Can't wait :)

Excellent - my cell is 703-209-8744 - Becky

The 7/21 Sox game is a Christmas in July promotion. The first 20,000 fans get free Adam Eaton t-shirts too.

I am doing a trip in late August to see the White Sox, Cubs and Brewers (not the Twins on this trip) as well as minor league teams in Kane County, Beloit and South Bend. Cubs and Kane County will be on the same day, so hopefully the Cubs day game doesn't go extra innings!

For any of you who have stayed at the Best Western that is walking distance to Miller Park, how was it?
