Cashman Field, a welcome distraction in Vegas

As stated in my blog post about the Epicenter, I also spent this year's vacation in Nevada.

Since I have absolutely no connection with gambling, it was a nice option to attend a game at Cashman Field.

Cashman Field is home of the Las Vegas 51s, the AAA Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. In this game, the 51s hosted the Fresno Grizzlies (Giants).

A huge parking lot lies in front of this combined convention center and stadium. The ballpark catches…

The Epicenter, minor league heaven?

I spent my vacation in California and Nevada this year. Four years ago I attended my first minor league game and I fell in love immediately. So it was clear to me that I wanted to visit the Epicenter this year.

The Epicenter is the home of the Dodgers' high A affiliate, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The stadium is built on the San Andreas fault. It is claimed that this stadium can survive a heavy earthquake. The stadium is part of a sports facility of the city of Rancho…

Great NYC and Cooperstown Induction Weekend.

Made it to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame induction of Barry Larkin and Ron Santo. We watched the Parade of Legends, toured the HoF, attended the induction ceremony, and caught games at Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, and the Staten Island Yankees. Definitely a great Chaser trip. Thanks to everyone who sent me tips on the HoF Induction and thanks to Gary Herman for inviting us up to watch some of the Mets/Dodgers game.  Pictures posted in my profile.

Just Joined Ballpark Chasers: 2 down, 28 to go!

Okay, I've joined Ballpark Chasers and uploaded pics from AT&T Park..

So far, besides AT&T Park, we've been to Petco Park (San Diego, for the 2011 season) but didn't get any pics of US there! Doohhh! I do have some player and game pics somewhere. I'll…

Regions Park - Birmingham, Alabama

Regions Park, home of the Birmingham Barons, isn't really that old, but, it's slated to be replaced after the 2012 season by a new ballpark in downtown Birmingham. Another stop on my ballpark tour for "work." What originally brought me down to Birmingham was to do a story on a guy from our viewing area, former 2nd round draft pick Jon Gilmore.…

grounded by stone

This was supposed to be it:  San Diego, PETCO, ballpark #36.  Was to have flown out Friday but was diagnosed with a kidney stone (which is STILL in me!) Wednesday, and couldn't go.  Hopefully United Airlines and Hotwire come through with the refunds.  Hoped the Red Sox would be going to PETCO next season for the reschedule but, no such luck:  the Padres come to Fenway but the Red Sox do not go to San Diego (this series would have been Padres hosting Rockies).

The Strasburger - for you Ballpark Foodie Types

Big news, had a Strasburger last night at Nats Park!  I was at the game with a group of friends, six of us, at one of the tables at the Red Porch, back around where we were facing the center field entrance.  Seemed like the right time and place to order a Strasburger, (he was pitching and it was his 24th birthday) which turned out to be quite good - this is an eight pound cheeseburger, about the size of a layer cake, and we cut it up into six pieces, so everyone got a slice sized about as…

When it becomes too much: Minor Leagues

While my son and I were at our latest ballpark (Bowling Green Hot Rods) I remember a conversation I had with a couple of blokes in Beloit. I remember them telling me they had been to 354 baseball parks. Now I'm assuming that is college, summer leagues, minor etc all wrapped into one. But it got me thinking this past weekend,  when is it enough?

I was planning on stopping when I finally get to the magical 210 affiliated teams (Mexican League included) and the occasional…

Cooperstown Induction Weekend

I'm heading to Cooperstown tomorrow. I'm less interested in the Sunday speeches, and more interested in seeing the existing HOFers. Should be fun. I'll share some photos when I return. Then next week, I'm off to St.Louis for the first time to see the Dodgers and the Cardinals (and to increase my stadium count to 28).

Midway Stadium - St. Paul, Minnesota

Suffice it to say, I've never had a ballpark experience like Midway Stadium in St. Paul, home of the Saints. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, or a bad thing. There is plenty of entertainment value, but it's hard to focus on baseball when the circus is in town. If I was a regular, the shenanigans might wear me out, but for a one night experience, it was very memorable.…

The Trouble with Wrigley [UPDATED]

I'm a bit of a newbie around here, and given that I only hit the road once a summer for games, I hope you'll pardon my relative shyness. Of course, if anyone has questions about the Rogers Centre, feel free to pester me.

Last weekend I scratched two more stops off the bucket list - Miller Park and Wrigley Field. It was at the latter that I ran into my first real dumb situation in my fifteen stops to date. As wonderful as Wrigley is due…

Riverwalk Stadium, Montgomery, Alabama

Another of my minor league visits for "work," "Ballparks of the Midwest," or in this case, most certainly, the South. Of the 58 minor/independent ballparks I've been to at the time of this writing, this is my second favorite. I'm a huge fan of Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama. Check out my report…

The long drive 30 stadiums complete

On Thursday June 28th 2012 I finally reached stadium #30. On this trip my wife and I drove 3,700 miles. Pennsylvania to Miami and Tampa. Also stopped in Atlanta on the 29th and St Louis on July 1st and the Louisville Slugger Musuem on the way home. My wife needs Comerica Park to reach her 30th stadium. We have a mid August trip planned for Detroit. Overall I've been to 40 MLB stadiums since the VET back in 1986. To remember this amazing journey I purchased 1st base in St.Louis on July 1st.…

Mississippi Braves

I visited Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, home of the Southern League's Mississippi Braves back in April of 2012. A nice ballpark, although there isn't a whole lot that really separates it from a lot of the other ballparks built in the last 15 years. Still, a fun time as always at the ballpark!…

The time has finally come!!!

Well, my father, myself and my 2 boys will be at Coors Field on July 13th for our FINAL STADIUM.  Its been a long time since we started this adventure but i can say its been a BLAST.  My father started going to games in 1949 (Cleveland Municipal Stadium) and on the 13th will have been to 39 MLB and 31 Minor League Stadiums.  Myself, my dad took me to my first game in 1975 (also, Cleveland Municipal Stadium) and since I have been to 38 MLB, 31 Minor League and 28 different Sprint Training…
