A MUST see - the National Ballpark Museum

If your travels take you to Denver, just down the street from Coors Field, is a museum that you MUST see. It is the National Ballpark Museum. It boasts an impressive collection of ballpark memorabilia that is more comprehensive than any displayed elsewhere. It is a must see for all Ballpark Chasers as well as anyone else interested in the history of baseball ballparks. It's curator, Bruce "B" Hellerstein, is enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and an exemplary host.

An interesting start to the season

I haven't been to an MLB game yet this season. Extremely hard to believe. The weather has something to do with it, as does the sorry state of my New York Mets. I've also kept busy by "coming out of my baseball retirement". I am playing vintage baseball in the Coltsville Vintage Baseball League. We play 1860's rules that include playing bare-handed. Yes, with a hard ball. Check it out at the Friends of Vintage…

A Sad Day For Baseball Fans

It's a sad day for all baseball fans with the passing of a true legend, ambassador and hero, Bob Feller. A few thoughts and photos can be seen on my blog in "Mourning the Passing of a Baseball Legend".

Honoring James "The Orator" O'Rourke at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard

If you are in the Bridgeport, CT area, it's worth a stop to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard and check out the new statue to James "The Orator" O'Rourke. A great tribute to the long overlooked Hall of Famer. You can read more about the Unveiling and Dedication of the statue at my blog, The Baseball Stadium Connoisseur.

Inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame Classic

I attended the inaugural Hall of Fame Classic in Cooperstown on Father's Day Weekend. It was a baseball fan's dream. With the likes of Bob Feller, Brooks Robinson, Ferguson Jenkins, Paul Molitor, Phil Niekro, Jeff Kent, Bill "Spaceman" Lee, et al, there were the makings of a "classic" weekend. I almost forgot to post a link here to my blog entry. If you're interested, check it out at Roger's Baseball Blog.

The New Yankee Stadium

I've uploaded some pictures and put some thoughts on my blog related to the new Yankee Stadium in The New Cathedral of Baseball. Yes Ken your right, very little new history has been made there (with the exception of giving up 14 runs in an inning), however, this cathedral pays homage to the storied franchise that has won almost a quarter of the World Championships played. This is a tough thing to say for a Mets fan.

#41 - Done again... until next year

OK, so I'm done again. Picked up #41, the new Yankee Stadium (the true Cathedral of the religion of baseball) last night. I'll be writing more about it later. But once again, my quest is complete until the new stadium opens in Minnesota next year.

The Mets officially open Citi Field

The Mets officially opened Citi Field last night and I was there to participate in the festivities. If you are interested in my experiences, they can be found at "Citi Field is Now Officially Open". I'd also like to hear from any Mets fans that have visited Citi Field and what they think about the new home of the Mets - I express my opinions in "OK Mets Fans -… Continue

Do you go to the ballpark to watch the game?

Well, as I said in my last post, I have started a blog, Roger's Baseball Blog, with the intent of sharing baseball experiences. I think of myself of more of a baseball traditionalist and in that vein, my latest post, "My first opinion piece - why do you go to a baseball game?" intends to spark some discussion about the focus of a visit to the ballpark. Take a look and… Continue

Down to one again

Thanks to my second visit to Citi Field (I also went to the Georgetown/St. John's game on March 29) my magic number is back down to one. Of course, it was just an exhibition game, but I'll be there on Opening Day as well. I have a new favorite stadium in Citi Field which is a great place to see a game, if not expensive. Sure it doesn't have the view of PNC and AT&T nor the history of Wrigley and Fenway but Citi Field is now at the top of my list (OK it could be partly due to the fact that… Continue
