Blind Baseball Fan revisits former parks in August, Seeks feedback

Good afternoon, this is Reggie, a new member of this very nice website.

One of the great things about baseball is the ballpark, every place has a different look, different feel, different sound. All parks look different, seat colors, outfield fence alignment, view of the areas beyond the park....Different sound, some have organists that each have a unique style (they all should), PA Announcers, chants from the crowd....Different feel, how the wind blows through some places, others with their retractible roof that can change the setting during the game, and I could go on and on.

Thus blind fans like me have a great apreciation for baseball and I hope to hit all the major League stadiums some day. In the past I've been at former ballparks, Olympic Stadium and Metrodome (2002), yankee and Shea Stadiums (2008), Bush Stadium (2002), and the Astrodome (last in 1998). I've also been to the existing Rangers Ballpark at Arlington, Minutemaid Park, Comerica Park, Chase Field, Coors field, Kaufman Stadium, and Rogers Center before it was known as such.

August 13-15, I take a weekend get away to see my mom's new house near St. Louis, new in that she just bought it, though it is actually 150 years old. I'm also hitting ballparks that weekend, a Friday night stop over in Denver to see colorado host Milwaukke, that Saturday afternoon in St. Louis as the Cards play the Cubs, then Sunday before going home to the Dallas area, I will stop in kansas city and take in the Royals and yankees. I already have purchased my air travel and tickets, combined cost to fly cheap and sit in cheap seats above the infield was a combined $495.

Here is where I need some help and who knows, maybe even find someone going to the game. My prior trip to these three cities in 2002 I was with friends, this time I'm going solo as I did to new York in 2008. St. Louis is pretty easy, because I can catch the light rail from the airport to Bush and then connect with mom. the major chalenge is getting between the airport and Coors Field and even more so, the airport and kaufman Stadium. Anyone have thoughts or ideas, drop me a line.

In case you are wondering, my seat locations are as follows.

Colorado, section U329, row 10, seat 7 on 8/13, St. Louis, section 361B, row 12, seat 1 on 8/14, and Kansas city, section 420, row EE, seat 22 on 8/15.

My mobile phone does shoot video, so I will upload some material after that trip.

Also, my wonderful girlfriend Lorna goes to her first big league game with me the 28th, Rangers hosting oakland. We are long distance for now and there are no major league parks within hundreds of miles of her home in far western Wyoming.

Sorry to disappoint you again...no, that isn't me. I have heard of him though, his name is spelled with a C. Sounds like a cool book though. Not familiar with Milo Hamilton, but I love Minute Maid Field!

I am in the midst of writing some stuff of my own. If you ever head to the east coast, let me know.

Kurt, I will do my best. Meg was real helpful in helping me plan out the Denver part of the trip and thanks to assistance from both the Royals and transit officials up in KC, I have figured that one out as well.

By the way, are you the same Kurt that wrote the Voices of the Game book? I got that as a gift years ago from my aunt Barbara and took months reading it using a special scanning program in those days, and every minute of that book I enjoyed. I'm also going to attend the final home game this year in Houston, which marks the end of the career of one of my favorites in Milo Hamilton. What a gift, growing up in Texas, hearing Hamilton, Gene Elston, and other greats. Mark Holtz "Hello win Column" was another favorite of mine, what game do I remember first hearing him call, the end of a dramatic Rangers win over the Red Sox in May 1986, the call when Gary Ward scored in extra innings, "hello first place"!

I'll keep you all updated.

Reggie, I'm afraid I can't be much help with your request, but I was really impressed reading your post. Please make sure you put a write-up of your trip on the site, you have an incredible perspective.

Best,
Kurt
