I am pleased to read my hometown Seattle Mariners are dedicating their first six home games of the 2011 season to the Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. The Mariners will make a donation to the Red Cross to match all fan donations along with Mariners staff and employees, with a guaranteed donation of at least $100,000.

The Mariners right-fielder, Ichiro Suzuki, has already donated  100 million yen (about $1.25 million) to the Japanese Red Cross. Redmond, Washington based Nintendo Corporation, who is a majority owner of the Seattle Mariners is also matching donations from its employees to either the American Red Cross or Americares.

If you haven't had the chance to yet, please donate here to the Red Cross.

hey guys- happy opening day! I just read that the A’s will donate $1 from every ticket sold to Sunday’s game against the Mariners to Japanese relief efforts.

No, I haven't but that is not to say there isn't anything else going on with other teams. I will keep my eye out for it...

Thanks for posting this Craig. It's great to hear what the Mariners ballclub is doing. Have you run across any other team doing similar work? I got this email today from MLB and unicef
