Going to a Baltimore game in September against Red Sox. Having a hard time getting Inner Harbor Hotel rooms. Anyone familar with the Holiday Inn Express at 221 North Gay St? Looks pretty close to Camden Yard. Is this a safe area where the Hotel is located? Thanks for any help. Would you stay there with your family?

Which Inner Harbor hotel were you trying to reserve through? I don't know anything about the Holiday Inn...the reviews seem okay though. It doesn't look like its an easy walk to the ballpark though.

It's not an easy walk to OPACY really. It's also starting to get into what I consider a shady part of town; a walk around the neighborhood will show you such sights as the city impound lot, state pen/central booking, & a homeless shelter. A quarter mile away is The Block home to Baltimore's strip joints & peep shows.

Dan-

Coincidentally, this is the hotel where we are staying for our trip in July. I was told that they have a free shuttle that runs to Camden Yards from 8:00 a.m. through 9:30 p.m. so we should be able to get a free ride there and cab it back to the hotel.

If you are hitting a day game, it sounds like you should have free passage both ways.

I can let you know how it goes after our trip...

I strongly recommend the Hilton right across the street from Camden Yards. A little pricey but a very nice hotel. Don't bother buying a room with a ballpark view because the view isn't great and there is a free 4th floor balcony where you can catch a much better view of the game. What I have done in the past is stay for 2 nights and watch 1 game in the stadium and 1 from the balcony. My family and I always stay at the Hilton when in Baltimore because it is literally a 30 second walk from the stadium. Sorry that I don't know anything about the Holiday Inn. Have fun!

For what it is worth.. Went on Priceline and got a room for July at the Pier 5 for under $80 bucks... Inner Harbor Area

I stayed at the Holiday Inn when I visited Camden Yards to see the Red Sox in 2005. I can't remember what street it was located on but it was within walking distance to the park and harbor and in a safe area. I would stay with my family. Note that there were quite a few homeless people in the area looking for money.
Enjoy your trip!

We were in Baltimore for the game Saturday night and stayed at this hotel. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is pretty shady so even though it is only about a mile from the ballpark, I would not recommend walking. They have a shuttle that runs on the hour. If you are driving to the hotel, the parking lot is very small and we literally got the last available spot even though we arrived right around the 3:00 pm. check-in time. I suspect you would otherwise have to find street parking because there were not any other parking lots around.

The rooms were just okay. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The carpet in our room was filty but looked just fine in the room where my brother stayed. There was a mini fridge in the room and a microwave. The breakfast was fine, although it got so crowded at one point that there were no more tables available and people had to balance their plates on their laps to eat. My boys were disappointed that there was not a pool.

The hotel gets points for proximity but that's about it. This was a guys only trip and it was fine for our purposes; however, I would certainly look for another hotel if I was planning to return to Baltimore with my wife and kids.

Dan,

If you haven't booked your hotel already. I stayed at the Renaissance Harborview which was fantastic and I got it for $75/night with Priceline blind bidding option. It was an easy walk.
