3rd annual trip set.. Toronto, Boston, Cooperstown... QUESTION?

Our 3rd annual summer baseball roadtrip date has been decided. May 15-18. This year we are going to hit Toronto, Boston and the Hall of Fame. Starting from Detroit, Thurday night in Toronto, Friday in Boston(against the Tigers), Saturday Hall of Fame, Sunday driving back home.

Any ideas on some must see spots would be nice, but the biggest question I have is How long does it take to go through the Hall of Fame??. We'll be going before Memorial day so the hours I believe are 9-5. Everything ive read online is different.. anywhere from 2-8 hours.

We are going to Boston in June and also want to visit the HOF. However, we will be relying on public transportation. Any ideas on public transportation, bus/train to Cooperstown?

Great advice! Good to know about the busy weekend. Had no idea. We'll have to book the hotel ASAP if still available. If not, we'll have to find somewhere outside the city as you suggested.

Thanks.

I will admit. I hadn't thought about driving back to the US that night. That will be a long day. 1 caution is the weekend you are coming is a very busy weekend in Boston as its college graduations so hotels will be very expensive and possibly already fully booked. This also means a lot of traffic heading into Boston on that Friday so I would plan to arrive in Boston by 3 at the latest. You will face heavy traffic on the Mass Pike (I-90). Plan for more time than the time Google shows you for the drive (possibly by 2 hours). If you are up for it, I would maybe even suggest a hotel on the outskirts (Framingham or so). Check into the hotel around 2 and then drive to Fenway. Park there and then drive back to the hotel after the game. I normally would not suggest this but this helps you on Saturday too.

5 hours is definitely sufficient for the HOF and some walking around in Coooperstown

Well... If we leave the Detroit area around noon we could get past the border and be in Toronto around 4. This gives us plenty of time to park, eat, and get to the 7pm game. After the game we would head back in the states, and stay in Buffalo or some city just past the border.  It would be a long day, but we could knock out both border crossings in one day.

Friday we leave Buffalo to Boston. Its about 7 hours, so if we left around 8 or 9 we could be in Boston around 3-4.. Probably closer to 4 dealing with afternoon traffic. Again this gives a few hours to check in to the hotel and get some food and get to Fenway. (not planned, but that weekend the Tigers are in Boston)(Bonus)

Saturday we leave Boston and go to Cooperstown. About 4 hours. Even if we get to the Hall at noon at the latest it would give us 5 hours to see everything. This was the one area of the trip we weren't sure about.  How long it would take us to see everything.  After some kind people's feedback it seems like the 5 hours "should" be enough time.  If not we can always see what we missed sunday morning.

This would give us all day sunday to get back home. Cooperstown to Detroit is roughly 7.5 hours, not including the 2 border crossings... much better than the drive from Boston to Detroit at the END of the weekend.

We layed out all options for this trip and this way works the best for us.  It breaks down some of the long drives while still giving us plenty of time to get to all the cities and time to see all the stadiums and the HOF.

I don't see how you are going to have enough time for this trip. Its a 9+ hour drive from Toronto to Boston including a border crossing which can take a significant amount of time (or could be 10 minutes). During this drive you pass the baseball HOF.

I would rearrange it a bit.
Thursday night - Toronto game
Friday - drive to Cooperstown to try to get there around 10 or so. Leave Toronto early. Its a 4 hour drive to Cooperstown. Leave time to walk around the town and Doubleday Field. Leave here and drive partway to Boston.

Saturday - Finish drive to Boston. 7pm game that night.
Sunday - drive back home.

I think this would leave it at a more manageable pace without changing the # of nights and without having to rush to get to 2 different destinations.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Looks like the average time at the hall is around 3 hours, but could be longer depending how much we want to read. Sounds like we might have to check out the town as well... at least for a bite to eat. Looking foward to this years trip and the upcoming baseball season.. Most of all, to get over all this snow. I'll trade a snow shovel for a Louisville slugger any day.

Thanks again!

2-3 hours in the Hall of Fame is good, but you could spend a whole day there and exploring the town of Cooperstown if you wanted. In Toronto, there is the Royal Ontario Museum, kind of a cross between the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History. It's in a nice, scenic area of Toronto as well. The Hockey Hall of Fame, while not big is very interactive, especially if you're a hockey fan.

Depending how much time you have in Toronto hit the Hockey hall of Fame, only a few blocks from Stadium (Only need an hour to see it all). I would give yourself at least 3 hours in the baseball hall of fame - I went through with the family in 1.5 hours (2 kids - 1 only 4) If I was alone or with buddies could have spent 3 hours or more. Guessing your Tigers fans from Detroit so Drive to Erie after seeing Cooperstown and catch Erie Seawolves and the return of Lance Parrish to the Tigers system (New Manager).

sorry I read you comment to quickly. it said BEFORE memorial day. I would thing you would probobly be done early. If you want to see a (minor league) game after the hall on May 17th Syracuse (a little less than 1 1/2 hrs from Cooperstown) is home at 7PM and on the way back for you.

Yep after memorial day it does close at 9, but this year was tough finding a weekend that works for all of us. That weekend in May was the only that fit all of our schedules. We have a whole day set for the Hall but I find it hard to believe it will take more than a few hours, but none of us has ever been, so id thought id hear from some peeps that have been.

Thanks for the responses.. Keep them coming
