Friend and I will be driving to Chicago in August to catch a Cubs (1:10) and White Sox (7:10)game. Would appreciate any suggestions on getting to the games and where to stay. We plan on getting to Chicago around 11am and leaving the next day for our minor league trip throughout the Midwest.

I really liked the Days Inn in Chicago. It's close enough to the trains and walkable to Wrigley (about a mile).

I was in Chicago in 2013 to see both a Cubs and Whitesox game, but we luckily did them on seperate days. We parked right beside Wrigley in someones backyard, which was great for getting to the game, but horrific when trying to leave. The drive in from the interstate took us 10-15 minutes, but the drive out to the interstate took us 2 hours and when we got to the interstate it was gridlock and at a stand still. The next day we left early to go to US Cellular and we had quite the traffic to deal with again, but being on the interstate and not side streets like you will be on near Wrigley did help. We may have been very unlucky with traffic, but I would suggest you take the train if at all possible. As for a hotel, we stayed at a hotel near the airport for ease for our flight home, so I cannot help you with that. Good luck getting to the games, however you decide, and hopefully you see some good games.

Thanks Dustin. I need some idea of finding a hotel and then if it's possible to use public transportation to make a round trip from hotel to Wrigley to US Cellular to hotel. We weren't originally going to Chicago, but Indians have rainout scheduled so we thought to try and catch a doubleheader.

It sounds like you are driving around the Midwest, so you can always just drive to a train station and park there if you choose a hotel not in walking distance of a stop. I did that way back in '97 when I 1st went to Wrigley and it worked out quite well for us then. Just another option for you.

Thanks Dustin. Decided to skip the White Sox game and go to Cubs at 1pm. We will be heading west toward Iowa, so will try to park/ride somewhere south of the city and drive after the game for couple of hours. Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. Again, thx

I went on two separate trips to Chicago and stayed near O'Hare each time. I found that the least expensive quality hotels were there. I took the subway to Wrigley the first time and to US Cellular the second time.

I was just at Wrigley on a trip. I parked at the Howard/Paulina CTA station. $5 park & ride. Take the red line (or purple line near game time) to the Addison station and you are right there. It's about a 15 minute drive to 294 from the CTA station.

If you want a relatively (for Chicago) inexpensive hotel near the red line, try the Embassy Suites in Northfield.

If you want to spend more, the Courtyard on Ontario is usually relatively reasonably priced, and well located on the Magnificent Mile. But parking is expensive downtown. I recommend staying in the suburbs and using the Howard CTA station park and ride.

I didn't check in on this site until post-trip, but my Dad & I did the Chicago double-dip on Monday as well! GREAT pitchers duel in the Cubs-Indians game, capped with a walk-off home run! The White Sox game started slooooow, but ended up being a good 1-run game as well. Great baseball day!
