I think I've pretty much contemplated the entire day on the topic of a new blog post, so here it goes...

The first question I get most of the time, is how and why are you a Detroit Tiger fan? My answer usually takes a minute or two to explain. Most people are confused at first, but then they understand. I was born, raised, and continue to live in Louisiana. Where does Michigan come into the picture? It all started with a transistor radio in the mid-1960s. As a child, my father listened to the Tigers on the radio and often watched them on television, whenever possible. His favorite player was Norman Dalton Cash, #25. He often explains to me how there was just something about that first baseman, who sometimes didn't wear a baseball helmet. I wish I would have been around to see him play.

In 2005, my Dad, sisters, and I ventured out to Oakland, California to see the Tigers take on the A's. Actually, this was my first time seeing them since 1995. This team was pretty bad, not as horrible as 2003, but still they needed something. A year later, in July 2006, we traveled to Seattle to watch them verses the Mariners. I knew in my heart this team, the 2006 Detroit Tigers were much different. Three months later, my Dad was booking his flight to see his beloved team in the 2006 World Series in Detroit. In the end, the Tigers would just stay the American League Champions, but that was good enough for us.

Life really hasn't been the same since then! Traveling to both Chicago and Detroit following Seattle, this will be our fifth season in a row catching them in multiple games. Day in and day out, I'm on Tigers.com checking out the team on Gameday and on TV on occasion.

So, I ask you, what's your baseball story? For some it might be family tradition, others it might be random like mine. Please feel free to share!

Also, I might add..
I became a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, after my favorite baseball player Chad Durbin signed with them in December of 2007. I've been following them ever since!

Thanks for reading!

No, thank you, haha!

I like your story too!
I'm glad I'm not the only person whose favorite team is states away from where they live!

Thanks for sharing, Christina!

As for myself, living in Seattle while being a die hard Reds fan always makes for a nice conversation. My story goes back to 1986 when I was 6 years old and living in Tampa, Florida. My dad took me to my very first baseball game during spring training in Sarasota. The Reds were playing the Mets that day. Eric Davis hit a home run and the Reds came out on top! Needless to say, I was sold on the Reds and they have been my favorite team ever since!

Awesome blog Christina. I always find it interesting as to how a person becomes a fan of a certain team. Especially when the team is out of state! I will be posting a blog about how I became a Cubs, Royals, and Rays fan. I love to root for teams that seem like they will never win!

Thanks Jack, I appreciate that! Thanks, and good luck to your Yankees as well. Maybe so, or the ALDS like in 2006!

That is a nice story Christina. I have been following the Yankees since my elementary days (long long time ago). DiMaggio, Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle all contributed to my love and passion for the Yanks. Good luck to your Tigers. Who knows maybe we will face in the ALCS.
