Artie Wilson Could Have Been So Much More

Arthur Lee Wilson was a superstar shortstop in the Negro leagues, mostly for the Birmingham Barons. He was an All-Star in four of his first five years in the Negro Leagues. A rookie named Jackie Robinson took the All-Star honors the only year Wilson wasn’t named to the team. In 1948 Wilson hit .402 for the Barons, seven years after “Teddy Ballgame” hit .406. Wilson was known for using the opposite field and his great speed.

While Wilson was hitting .379 in the Puerto Rican Winter…

Fantasy Junkies alert courtesy of the fflockerroom.com

Who’s hot: Fantasy Baseball

Wilin Rosario – The Rockies Catcher exploded onto the seen last season, his first full season in the Bigs. He crushed 28 homers and hit .270/.312/.530 in 396 at-bats. Those numbers from any rookie would make GMs drool. But those stats from a catcher will make adult bibs a must. This year Rosario is clipping at 20 homers .286/.313/.494 in 385 at-bats through Thursday. He produced 71 RBIs in 2012 and he is already at 70 this season. The homers are slightly down…

The Verlander Decline

If the Tigers make the World Series this season it might be in spite of Justin Verlander instead of because him. He is not having a terrible season per se. He has surely not been his typical dominant self though. Recently radio personality and retired player Jack Clark suggested Justin Verlander has not lost velocity, he was just simply not using PEDs anymore. His words not mine. He also included the great Albert Pujols in such discussions.

This decline of Verlander is strangely…

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH MATT CAIN?!

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain is currently 5-5 with a 4.85 ERA. He has struck out 102 batters in 111.1 innings of work. His WHIP is a respect 1.14 and yet those aren’t the numbers we have come to expect from the Giants ace. He career ERA is a sparkling 3.38 and only once has he finished a season with an ERA above 4.00. That season was 2006, it was Cain’s first full year in the Bigs and he went 13-12 with a 4.15 ERA. Not bad for twenty-one year old rookie.

Cain is now…

Jackie Robinson the Player

Jackie Robinson the Player

We all know that Jackie Robinson was the man who broke the color barrier. His place in history was already set before he even stepped onto Ebbets Field. What feeds his legacy is the fact that he was a great player. He endured so much in his life, yet he still put up amazing numbers. His career stats are not often spouted because he only played ten seasons. Also he did not make his MLB debut till age 28. His numbers can hardly be compared to other players who…

The 2,000/1,500 club

The 2,000/1,500

There is a club, it is an exclusive club, that has only 28 members but the door to this clubhouse isn't closed. Some of members might surprise you. What might be even more surprising are the names not in this club.

If someone was to ask you to name the 28 members of the 3,000 hit club who would you say first? Babe Ruth? Ted Williams? Barry Bonds? Ken Griffry Jr.? If you said any one of those names you are dead wrong. In fact there are…
