Monterrey!

Posted on May 12, 2018 at 7:02am 0 Comments

Having missed seeing a game in Monterrey, Mexico, when MLB last played there in 1999, I was determined not to make up for that this time around.  I contacted the nominal home team, the San Diego Padres, who were very kind and helpful in my obtaining a ticket.  I flew to Houston from NJ on…

Cuba!

Posted on December 19, 2014 at 1:00pm 2 Comments

Hey Chasers---I'm psyched to see the Marlins vs. Rays at Estadio Latinoamericano in Havana! The place holds 55,000 and no doubt would sell out in a heartbeat for a major league game. It might happen sooner than we think. A good Cuban cigar would be a treat, too.

Yankee Stadium-1957

Posted on October 30, 2014 at 3:34pm 1 Comment

This is the scorecard cover from August 8,1957, Washington Senators at New York Yankees. The Nats won the game 6-1, before a throng of 9108. Mickey Mantle batted third and Yogi Berra batted cleanup, but the only homer hit that day was by the light-hitting Eddie Yost (the "walking man") of the Nats. I'll periodically be posting scorecard covers from other games I attended in different ballparks if there is any interest amongst the group.…

Day Trip to Houston From NJ

Posted on September 30, 2013 at 7:00pm 0 Comments

Traveled to Houston yesterday to see the Yankees and Astros play their final game of the season. As usual used airline miles to make the trip in one day to avoid the hassles of baggage and overnight stays. Left Newark at 5:20 AM, was in Houston before 8, rented a car, and spent the morning visiting geographic highpoints (another hobby) in the area, Houston's highest natural elevation being an oxygen-deprived 280+ feet!

The game itself was 14 innings of mostly bad baseball between two…

Day Trip to Marlins Park

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 7:30am 2 Comments

Had a successful trip to Marlins Park yesterday and got my ballpark total up to 66, where it's likely to stay for some time until the A's build a new park or MLB schedules more games in foreign venues.

Flew out of Newark at 6AM, landed in Miami (MIA) at 9. Had some chow, killed time with a book until 10:30, then headed for the ballpark. From MIA, look for signs for the MIA Mover and Metrorail. In most cases you will take an elevator up to level three, then follow signs to the MIA…

Hi Michael, you made a comment on my profile in January. I hadn't been on here in a long time. I'm updating you to tell you that I've seen 2 parks that have closed down (Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium,) my dad has seen games at the Polo Grounds (when the '62 Mets played there, he said it was a comedy show.) He's actually a Yankees Fan, who grew up right near the Bronx. I'm pretty sure he never saw a game at Ebbets as he was probably too young to remember. I bet my grandfather did though.

This year for Christmas I got a 4-pack, letting me go to four games at Citi Field. In addition I got a ticket as a gift for Christmas, another that is a part of a fundraiser-bus trip to Citi Field, and another for my birthday that is to Opening Day! I also got money saved up that will allow me to see parks like Progressive Field, Nationals Park, PNC Park, and Possibly CBP Again.

I know what you mean about seeing the old parks. I'm very thankful that I saw games at Old Yankee and many at Shea. When Citi Field opened, I never realized how much I'd miss Shea Stadium. I think everyone has an attachment to the team, stadium, and players that they first discovered there love for baseball in. It's funny, I never thought of Shea Stadium as a dump. I thought of it as the greatest place in the world. Back in 2006, I never compared stadiums. I always just thought of them as places that baseball was played with slight differences. I hope the Mets can make Citi Field more home-like to their fans. They haven't contended since their last year at Shea (I attended the 3rd and 2nd to last games at Shea Stadium.)

Hi Michael:

Can't wait to read more of you blogs about games and ballparks you've seen. My hometown ballpark is Yankee Stadium, too, although I didn't get to see the pre-70's version.
